Guilford Art Center to Celebrate Statewide
Connecticut Open House Day June 14
Festivities Designed to Build Awareness of
State’s Cultural and Tourism Assets Among Residents
The Guilford Art Center is joining approximately 200 other organizations and attractions throughout the state to open its doors for Connecticut Open House Day on Saturday, June 14.
This statewide event, sponsored by the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism (CCT), is designed to broaden awareness among residents of Connecticut’s remarkable cultural and tourism assets and encourage them to become ambassadors who share their discoveries with visiting family and friends. Visitors can enjoy the gallery exhibition Documenting “The Other”: Photographs of China, Myanmar and India by Larry Snider (always free to the public) and the chance to browse in the newly-redesigned Shop of contemporary craft. In addition, Executive Director Jean Perkins will offer an exclusive gallery tour of the Snider exhibition at 2pm. The Center’s Weaving Department will sponsor a sale of fiber-related goods, including knitting yarn, weaving supplies, and a wide selection of current publications on weaving, embroidery, basketry and more. (Cash and checks will be accepted).
To qualify for any Open House Day special, at least one person in each visiting group must show a valid Connecticut driver’s license. The event also includes opportunities to become a Connecticut Ambassador as part of CCT’s Ambassador Program, an ongoing initiative designed to cultivate pride among residents in the state’s many diverse historic, arts, tourism and entertainment treasures.
